What is not to love about the beauty of a classic car?
From the days when form and function were intertwined with aesthetics.
The inspiration for this piece is pretty obvious to all as the British would say 'Cor, She's a beauty!'
The Aston Martin DB4 GT is a thing of beauty.
Designed by Carrozzeria Touring in Milano with a superleggera (tube frame) body, the DB4 was unveiled at the 1958 London Motor Show. It was the company's first model to be constructed at the Newport Pagnell works in Buckinghamshire. It was released in 1958 and production ended in 1963, with 1,204 having rolled off the production line.
This painting is of the DB4 GT variant. This was a special lightweight, high-performance version of the DB4. Introduced in September 1959, it featured enclosed headlights and a thinner aluminium skin for lighter weight. The wheelbase was also reduced in comparison to the standard car, which resulted in many cars not being fitted with rear seats.
But it was the engine that made the GT special. Available in 3.7 L (3670 cc/223 in³) and 3.8 L (3750 cc/228 in³) versions, the engine had two sparkplugs per cylinder with two distributors and three twin-choke Weber carburettors. Modifications to the cylinder head increased compression which raised the power output to 302 hp (225 kW). Maximum speed for the GT was 151 mph (243 km/h)[10] with a 6.1 second sprint to 60 mph (97 km/h). It was the fastest road legal production car at the time.
Seventy-five GTs were built with this body style.
My greatest challenge with painting this , as with all classic cars, is being satisfied with the amount of detail that I include.
It is not a commercial balance - I paint to create images that I love and my art has to be exactly as intended.
Knowing that I have packed intricate detail that many may likely never spot, may seem to be pointless but I take great comfort from knowing that it is there and I feel that it contributes to the overall image.
It will also keep those with a keen eye occupied and pleasantly surprised for many years to come - be warned that you may need a magnifying glass, as I required one to paint it!
My limited edition prints are of the highest quality and should be considered to be an investment.
There is so much more passion and soul in a painting, which cannot be conveyed in a photograph - and I love photography.
You will forever be rewarded through the ownership of something that provides you with great satisfaction and pleasure each time you see it.
It will certainly be a statement piece and generate conversation and perhaps even envy from visitors and friends alike.
Thank you
