What is not to love about the beauty of a classic race car?
From the days when form and function were intertwined with aesthetics.
This BMW E9 is a favourite of mine, be it the road going version, the Batmobile complete with audacious wings, or the restrained (!) DTM versions.
The inspiration for this piece came from seeing it in the flesh in 2010 on its world tour.
As the Germans would say 'Die ultimative Fahrmaschine'!

About this artwork

This BMW 3.0 CSL  was raced by Chris Amon and Hans-Joachim Stuck, won the German Touring Car Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in 1973. 3.0 CSLs wouls dominate the European Touring Car Championship from 1975 to 1979.

This final version of the 3.0 CSL was homologated in 1973 through the 'Batmobiles', named due to the aerodynamic package including a larger air dam, short fins running along the wings, the spoiler above and behind the the trailing edge of the roof and a tall rear wing.

I was fortunate to see this racing car in the flesh, in New Zealand in 2010, when it toured the world as part of BMW celebrations for its centenary. The staff very kindly offered my two sons the opportunity to actually sit in the drivers seat. It was parked up against a display and I was subsequently also offered the chance to sit in it but for reasons that I cannot understand (perhaps not fitting through the tight gap!), I declined. I rue that decision most days as it is one of my favourite cars of all time....

I have a lot more work to do to this painting - it is one of my favourite race cars, so I need to do it justice!

Value

My limited edition prints are of the highest quality and should be considered to be an investment.
There is so much more passion and soul in a painting, which cannot be conveyed in a photograph - and I love photography.
You will forever be rewarded through the ownership of something that provides you with great satisfaction and pleasure each time you see it.
It will certainly be a statement piece and generate conversation and perhaps even envy from visitors and friends alike.
Thank you
