What is not to love about the beauty of a classic car?
From the days when form and function were intertwined with aesthetics.
The inspiration for this piece is pretty obvious to all as the Italians would say 'bella machina classica'!
The Ferrari 250 GTO was designed by Giotto Bizzarrini and Sergio Scaglietti and was only in production for two years, from 1962 to 1964, with only 36 cars produced for homologation. This gave rise to the name Gran Turismo Omologata (Grand Touring Homologated).
Super rare and super expensive, the 250 GTO still holds the accolade of most expensive car, with a 1964 250 GTO selling for 70m USD in June 2018.
The example depicted is an early car, a 1962 Series 1. Whilst it is older than I, it is fair to state that it has clearly held up an awful lot better than I have.
I am really enjoying the classic cars, as I love the precision required to get the proportions and perspective correct. I do need to focus on completing one before commencing the next.....It is a little like a real classic car collection, with cars (paintings) dotted around the place in various stages of completion. At least I don't have to track down the spare parts!
My greatest challenge as always, is being satisfied with the amount of detail that I include.
It is not a commercial balance - I paint to create images that I love and my art has to be exactly as intended.
Knowing that I have packed intricate detail that many may likely never spot, but there is comfort in knowing that it is there and contributes to the overall image. It will also keep those with a keen eye occupied and pleasantly surprised for many years to come - be warned that you may need a magnifying glass, as I required one to paint it!
My limited edition prints are of the highest quality and should be considered to be an investment.
There is so much more passion and soul in a painting, which cannot be conveyed in a photograph - and I love photography.
You will forever be rewarded through the ownership of something that provides you with great satisfaction and pleasure each time you see it.
It will certainly be a statement piece and generate conversation and perhaps even envy from visitors and friends alike.
Thank you
