Who doesn't love a day at the beach?
I accept that it is somewhat less appealing at Portobello in mid-winter than it is in New Zealand in the summer, where and when this image was taken by me.
Wherever you are, sit back and look at the painting, pretend its a window and relax - unless you are already on Hahei!
About this artwork
The inspiration for this piece came from the period spent living in New Zealand. We used to visit a good friends bach (a very rustic NZ holiday home and something of an icon). The beach was the back garden and the lazy days of summer seemed to last for weeks.
Many hours were spent here looking at the waves and relaxing with a cold beer in the sunshine.
I really enjoyed painting this piece, not just for evoking happy memories including the precious time when your children were very young, but also as relief from the intricate and exacting detail that some of my other works demand.

There is so much more passion and soul in a painting, which cannot be conveyed in a photograph - and I love photography.
